Re: Issuance of Crown petroleum and natural gas rights on Vancouver Island and the Kootenay's to the holders of Freehold Coal Agreements with the Province
Further to Information Letter TITLES-03-06, issued September 23, 2003, the Ministry of Energy and Mines has concluded negotiations with the owners of major blocks of freehold coal lands on Vancouver Island and the Kootenay region, for Crown petroleum and natural gas rights within specific coal formations.
Parties to the agreements will have the opportunity to acquire Crown petroleum and natural gas tenures in the form of drilling licences for a five-year period and must exercise the option on at least twenty percent of their lands each year.
The issuance of drilling licences will be subject to the Ministry 's referral process to define specific tenure conditions and will also be subject to approval by Cabinet.
Details of any drilling licence issued will be announced at the time of issuance.
