Re:     Response to the Ministry of Energy and Mines September 10, 2002 Call for Proposals To Develop Marginally Economic Oil And Gas Resources in British Columbia

The Ministry of Energy and Mines has entered into a five year agreement with Encana Oil and Gas Co Ltd. and Burlington Resources Canada Ltd. to provide an opportunity for the companies to evaluate 91,389 hectares of deep shale gas rights in the Maxhamish Lake region of northeast BC.

The agreement covers rights in the Lower Banff - Exshaw - Upper Kotcho formation, which the companies surrendered from a number of existing contiguous drilling licences, in order to obtain a longer time-frame to evaluate the shale formation.  The agreement requires the companies to carry out specified exploration work to earn petroleum and natural gas leases.  The agreement is recorded in the Petroleum Titles System registry as agreement #54393.

The industry contacts for this project are Mr. Brian Weston of Encana Oil and Gas Co. Ltd., who can be reached via Email at: Brian.Weston@Encana.com and
