  1. What are the minimum requirements for my computer to allow Mineral Titles Online to run well?
    Intel based PC:
    • Minimum 1.2 GHz processor
    • Minimum 512 Mb memory
    • Browser: Optimized for Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
    • Operating system: Minimum Windows 2000
    • An email account

The above are the minimum requirements to access the system. Performance will be improved with a more powerful processor and more memory.

Mineral Titles Online (MTO) has been optimized to perform on Internet Explorer 7. Difficulties may be encountered if using an older or newer version. Browser upgrades can be downloaded from Microsoft at no charge. For more information refer to www.gov.bc.ca/com/down .

MTO is optimized for 1024 x 768 pixel display. You may wish to re-set your monitor’s display settings to this size. If you have a large or wide-screen monitor (greater than 17in), you may need to reduce the window size of your browser when viewing the online maps.

The Province of British Columbia’s standard is Microsoft Office. Most attached documents will either be MS Word, MS Excel, or MS PowerPoint. Clients can acquire this software or the appropriate free viewers available at the Microsoft website.

To obtain full advantage of the print capability of the system client are encouraged to install Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7.0 or later. This software can be downloaded at no charge from: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Some of the tutorials created for MTO use Adobe (Macromedia) Flash Player. Version 6 or higher is needed. If you do not have Adobe (Macromedia) Flash Player already installed, you can download the free plug in at: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/

Cable and ADSL high-speed connections are likely to provide the fastest response times. If you are using a dial-up connection over a regular phone line you will likely experience slower response times.

MTO uses auto-generated email to notify clients upon completion of submitted events and other transactions. Although an email is not mandatory, it is highly suggested that clients have or obtain an email account in order to receive these MTO auto-generated emails.
  2.
  3. Why is MTO switching back and forth between Authorized and Public settings?
Try increasing the amount of disk space available to run MTO. To do this:
    • Open the ‘Tools’ menu at the top of your webpage
    • From this menu select ‘Internet Options’
    • Click on the ‘General’ tab (if not already opened to this tab)
    • Click ‘Settings’ from the Temporary Internet files section

In the ‘Temporary Internet files folders’ section, increase the amount of disk space to use to 250MB or more.
  4.
  5. When acquiring a new mineral title, I’m getting a processing message but nothing appears to be happening. Why?
After selecting the cells of interest and entering the security code, it does not appear anything is happening. 20 minutes later, a “Time Out” message appears. The security setting in Internet Explorer may have been set too high. Lower your security to “Medium” or back to the default setting.
  6.
  7. There is a “Loading Data” message on my screen but it never goes away. Why?
MTO uses pop up windows for displaying information. Adjust your security or toolbar settings to allow “Pop-Ups” on the MTO website.
  8.
  9. The coordinate readout on the status bar isn’t on the map anymore. How can I get it back?
Internet Explorer: A default setting in Internet Explorer 7 turns off the ability to see JavaScript status bar updates.  For those clients who upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 or higher from Internet Explorer 6 and lost the coordinate readout please follow the instructions below to turn on the status bar text:
  10. i) Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
ii) Click Internet or Restricted sites, and then click the Custom level button.
iii) Scroll down to Allow status bar updates via script, select Enable
iv) Click OK until you return to Internet Explorer.  More information...

Status Bar Scripting: Scripts will no longer be able to set the status bar text through the window.status and window.defaultStatus methods by default in the Internet and Restricted Zones. This helps prevent attackers from leveraging those methods to spoof the status bar. To revert to previous behavior and allow scripts to set the status bar through window.status and window.defaultStatus, follow above steps.

Mozilla Firefox: Internet Explorer is the government standard browser on which Mineral Titles Online is supported; however, we have provided the instructions for activating the status bar in Firefox:

    i) Open Firefox, click on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Content tab
    ii) Select (check) Enable JavaScript.
iii) Click on the Advanced button beside Enable JavaScript.
iv) Select (check) Change status bar text.
    v) Click OK until you return to Firefox.

  11. What do I do if I'm using a pop-up blocker?
Pop-up blockers can make using the internet safer, but some trustworthy Web sites, like Mineral Titles Online, use pop-ups to deliver important information. To access the areas of this site that require pop-ups, simply add the site (for the MTO Map Viewer, use: webmaps.gov.bc.ca) to your pop-up blocker's trusted sites list.
For more information, select your blocker from this list:
If you have installed a third party pop-up blocker, you must consult your product's instructions on how to disable or allow certain sites to use pop-up windows. Here are links to a few pop-up blocker sites:
In some cases, you may temporarily disable popup blockers by holding the CTRL key on your keyboard and clicking the link.
