British Columbia’s increasing energy requirements and ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction and clean energy targets require greater investment and innovation in the areas of clean and renewable energy and technologies. British Columbia has abundant renewable energy sources, a natural advantage for new opportunities to meet our growing energy demands with clean, renewable power.
Government is working with other agencies to maximize opportunities to develop, deploy and export British Columbia’s clean and renewable energy technologies in an environmentally responsible and cost-effective manner.
The goal is to ensure that clean or renewable electricity generation continues to account for at least 90% of total provincial generation.
To lead this effort, the government is committed to investing in innovation by:
-
-
Implementing a provincial Bioenergy Strategy aimed at taking advantage of British Columbia’s natural bioenergy resource advantages.
-
-
Reducing air pollution and ensuring environmentally sustainable communities by contributing to the Localmotion Fund.
