Unconventional Gas

The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources facilitates and encourages the development of the province’s vast, yet untapped, sources of natural gas. The development of unconventional and frontier sources of natural gas such as tight gas and shale gas are especially of interest.

Unconventional Gas Technical Forum

As part of its commitment to exploring unconventional gas opportunities, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources' (MEMPR's) Resource Development and Geoscience Branch hosted the 3rd B.C. Unconventional Gas Technical Forum in April 2009.

The B.C. Unconventional Gas Technical Forum focussed on new opportunities in British Columbia, including two of the largest shale gas plays in North America.  Leading provincial experts, university researchers and international specialists provided insight into geoscience and other technological innovations pertinent to British Columbia’s world class unconventional gas resources.

The Forum took place April 16 & 17, 2009 at the Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria, B.C.
