The following resources provide detailed access to information about coalfields and coalbed gas resources in British Columbia.

Coalfields and CBG Potential in BC (November 2003) (PDF850.90KB)
The Geological Survey Branch map outlines the sedimentary basins and distribution of coal in British Columbia and the coalbed gas potential reserves in each basin.

 

Coal Map on MapPlace
MapPlace is a state of the art technical resource that allows users to set their own parameters when searching for geographical and geological information. Instructions for using MapPlace First time users of Map Place will need to download MapGuide Viewer. From www.mapplace.ca select “First Time Users”. This link will direct you to the “Quick Download & Install Instructions”. Mac users can go to the FAQ section where Mac specific download instructions can be found. Detailed information about coalfields is available at the MapPlace under Coal Map.
 
  • Select “View Coal Map” to relocate to the appropriate part of the site
  • Click “View Coal Map” again to go to the Coal Map

Coalfield maps in PDF format are linked to the Coal Map.

  • To view the coalfield maps, select “Coal PDF Maps” under the heading “File Download Layers”
     
    • If “Coal PDF Maps” is not visible try maximizing/enlarging the viewing window, this should correct the problem.
    • If the “Coal PDF Maps” is still not visible please return to www.mapplace.ca and click on “Comments & Support” for assistance.
       
  • Once selected the coalfields will appear on the Coal Map
  • Double click on the coalfield of interest to view a summary of that coalfield, links to coal deposit descriptions in MINFILE, links to Coal Assessment Reports, and coalfield base and satellite maps in PDF format.

If you have difficulty viewing the coal map or using any of the features please visit http://www.mapplace.ca where you can find information for First Time Users, answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and a link to Comments & Support.

Petroleum Titles Map
This map displays northeastern BC Petroleum and Natural Gas well locations, tenure, Petroleum and Natural Gas grid, oil & gas fields and major pipelines.
