British Columbia is fortunate to have a vibrant oil and gas industry and untapped oil and gas resources. The BC Energy Plan outlines the Province's commitment to building communities and workforce opportunities by fostering the oil and gas industry. One of the ways the Province is helping communities and the economy is by investing in the key infrastructure needed for competitive and safe access to regions with oil and gas resources.
The road network built in the northeast of the province was designed to support the general public, forestry and the region’s agriculture transportation needs. As British Columbia's oil and gas industry operations evolve, these operations require a dedicated road infrastructure that can withstand the heavy equipment used by oil and gas operators. Pipelines are also key to increasing competitiveness by opening up underdeveloped areas. By creating a dedicated infrastructure to support further exploration and development of minerals and hydrocarbons, we can create an economic environment in BC that encourages private-sector investment.
When roads are developed or rehabilitated, we can improve access to the vast amounts of untapped hydrocarbon sources in British Columbia that are not accessible due to poor or nonexistent infrastructure. The Infrastructure Development Section is committed to working with the oil and gas producers and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to ensure such improvements take place.
The Infrastructure Development Section manages the following projects and initiatives:
The British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources is requesting information from interested parties regarding projects that may be eligible for the Net Profit Royalty Program (NPRP). The NPRP intends to stimulate development of high risk and high cost natural gas and oil resources in British Columbia that are not economic under other royalty programs. Note, this is not a formal Request for Applications.
