Challenges to Developing Accurate Company and Project Lists:
- Companies tend to have low visibility, "No one knows us except our customers".
- Companies are also less well known since they are not directly listed public companies and generally sell to specialized downstream manufacturing and processing companies (not consumers or retail outlets).
Key Differences from Coal and Metal Mining:
- Many companies invest substantially more capital, manpower and operating time in processing these minerals than in mining them.
- Often their deposits are Campaign Mined, where mining is not continuous. A deposit is mined for a short period and stockpiled ore might then be drawn down over many months or even years.
- A single rock-type or ore-type is often processed into many different products which may be sold in a range of packages to a number of different industries, accompanied by a wide range of pricing, largely depending on value-added processing.
