Senior Geomatics Geoscientist
Area of Expertise:
Geospatial architecture and development of spatial data infrastructure (SDI); development of interoperable web processing services and integration with enterprise spatial databases and web map visualization; and development of geospatial applications and data mining technologies for resource management, mineral exploration, and environmental health assessment.
Current Focus:
Development of a corporate SDI for the management and service provision of geoscience data; maintenance of BCGeoMap; development of high performance spatial query algorithms in the delineation of catchment basins using graph theory and common table expressions; research on building spatial knowledge network based on graph theory; and integration of interoperable web processing services with corporate spatial database systems and web map visualization such as MapGuide and Google Earth.
Past Projects:
Geospatial architect for the development of GeoBC Atlas, a system to manage the BC provincial base mapping and derived products; project manager leading BC’s effort on the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) Interoperability Pilot project; senior business analyst for the development of BC Digital Road Atlas data model; project manager for the production of BC gridded DEM; UAT lead on the development of JTS Topology Suite and JUMP RoadMatcher; development of road data conflation specifications; and contribution to the development of Canadian National Road Network (NRN) and National Hydro-Network (NHN) standards.
Associated Experience:
Over 14 years experience in geospatial data management and GIS applications in resource management and environmental health assessment; associated faculty member at Royal Roads University teaching GIS courses; more than 12 years experience in geology, including seven years research work on isotopic geochronology and geochemistry (numerical analysis of mass balance) and three years experience on mining geology in one of the biggest uranium mines in Asia; other experience including hydrogeology and assessment of BC provincial ambient ground water quality monitoring network, zircon topology, diatomite, kaolin and gold deposits. |
