Career History:
Arlene spent ten years as an officer in the Canadian Forces before taking time off to raise her family. Frequent family moves took Arlene to many exciting locations throughout Canada, United States and Europe, two notable highlights being Germany for four years and Alaska for three. Work experience was punctuated by each move and led to a broad range of experiences including running her own daycare business, accounting, activity director in a nursing home, assorted retail jobs and numerous volunteer executive positions. Before coming to the BC Geological Survey, Arlene was a clerk in the Autism Funding Unit in the BC Ministry of Children and Families.
Work Profile:
Arlene brings her broad experience into play providing administrative support to the Geological Survey staff and directors. As the only administrative assistant, Arlene’s responsibilities cover a wide range of activities including human resources, finance, invoices, ordering, reception, and client interaction. Perhaps her greatest contribution is to provide a non-geological perspective to issues affecting the Survey.

Recent Projects:
In the last ten years Arlene has lived in three different cities in two different provinces and two different countries. She has traveled for fun through Europe, Malaysia, Alaska, Hawaii, Ontario and southern Quebec. Arlene learned to quilt and finished over twenty large projects including designing and leading two group projects. She trained for and ran a full Marathon (Winnipeg 07). She completed her University degree in May 2009. The most exciting recent project Arlene has been focused on is the release of her three children into the world of adulthood. Arlene’s current focus is the construction of a new house.
