Allan Wilcox, BSc., P.Geo., FGAC
Senior Mineral Assessment Geoscientist
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Geology, Carleton University
Career History:
Allan began his career working for Noranda and Manitoba Department of Mines. He then spent two years working in the pilot labs at Canmet. Allan started working for the Federal Government on the Geoscan project where he was indexing publications and working in the maps and rare books library. After two years, he moved over to Indian and Northern Affairs where his expertise was put to use studying the mineral potential of the Yukon and working on their Geoscan project.
In 1981, Allan joined the Geological Survey Branch where he has remained ever since. As a member of the GSB, Allan was instrumental in developing and implementing first MinFile, an electronic database of mineral occurrences, and later the Assessment Report Indexing System (ARIS). ARIS is a digital data base that makes available to the general public and industry, the results of previous mineral assessments done throughout the province. By accessing this data, industry and government can reduce their drilling footprint and research costs prior to making land use decisions. Allan provided consultation to the Northwest Territories on implementation of their MinFile system. Over the past twenty five years, Allan has built a strong working relationship with clients in both industry and government and is highly respected in the industry.
Work Profile:
Currently Allan is responsible for receiving and processing industry assessment reports, required reports that indicate the type of minerals found on staked land. He assess the reports to ensure that appropriate data is being submitted and enters the data into a database ARIS (Assessment Report Indexing System). After a year the data becomes public making it part of the specific detailed information available about the minerals in British Columbia.
