The Resource Information Section of the BC Geological Survey (the people that brought you MINFILE and MapPlace) are now bringing Property File into the digital age. Property File is undergoing a fundamental change. Similar to the ARIS Assessment Report Index and report catalogue, the files in Property File will be scanned and posted to the web. Access to the documents will initially be through a search page with access to PDF images through the results screen. The program began its design phase in 2005 and the first documents were posted in 2007. The project will take several years to complete. This project will place approximately 100,000 documents online for access by researchers, geoscientists and the public.
The Property File documents comprise a large collection of generally unique documents acquired by Ministry staff or supplied by donation from individuals and corporations over the last approximately 100 years. Click here to review Property File Metadata.
As the project is in its infancy, we have several hundred documents currently indexed and available. These are from the Falconbridge collection. Several other collections have been indexed (see below) but are not yet scanned. Documents will be linked through the MINFILE bibliography in an ongoing process. The BC Geological Survey, Resource Information Section would appreciate feedback from users on their impressions and comments about the interfaces, similar to 'beta testing'. Property File comments can be forwarded to Kirk Hancock.
