This map area contains 135 recorded mineral occurrences. This map area contains 135 recorded mineral occurrences. The area occurs within the Intermontane belt and is underlain primarily by Upper Paleozoic rocks of the Cache Creek terrane. These are intruded by several Late Cretaceous and Early Tertiary batholiths.


Since 1898 more than 19,000 kilograms of placer gold have been recovered from streams in the area. Lode gold exploration has intensified recently, with the listwanite hosted Yellow Jacket (104N 043) and Shuksan (104N 098) prospects being of leading interest. The Adanac (104N 052) porphyry molybdenum deposit, hosted by the Surprise Lake Batholith, has reserves of over 152 million tonnes grading 0.063 per cent molybdenum. Other notable commodities in the area include copper, tungsten, uranium magnesite and asbestos. Geologic mapping at the 1:50,000 scale in the Atlin area was recently completed by the BC Geological Survey.
