NTS 82F - Nelson

30 /
GSC OF 514/NGR 25/GSC OF 2355 / BCGS OF 1990-11 / GBC 2013-09

The Nelson (NTS 82F) reconnaissance-scale stream sediment and water survey was completed in 1977 and the resulting field and analytical data were released in 1978. A total of 1394 sediment and 1382 water samples were collected from 1318 sample sites.

As part of the RGS Archive Program, 1371 archived sediment pulps were re-analyzed by epi-thermal INAA and this new data along with original survey results were published in 1991.

British Columbia Geological Survey Open File 1990-11 presents analytical results for gold and 28 other elements from stream samples collected in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Study Area in southeastern British Columba.

Geoscience BC Report 2013-09 presents new ICP-MS results for stream sediment samples originally collected during the 1977 Nelson RGS program. New ICP-MS results for stream sediment samples collected in the 1977 Lardeau RGS program were released in January 2013 as Geoscience BC Report 2013-04.

The 1977 survey was conducted by the Geological Survey Branch of Canada (GSC) in conjunction with the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (MEMPR) under the Canada-British Columbia Uranium Reconnaissance Program.

E.H.W. Hornbrook directed GSC activities and A. Sutherland Brown, N.C. Carter and P.A. Christopher directed MEMPR activities. Contracts were let to the following companies for sample collection, preparation and analysis and were managed by staff of the GSC and MEMPR.

COLLECTION: Semco Ltd., Vancouver, B.C.
S.B. Ballantyne (GSC) and T.E. Kalnins (MEMPR)
REPARATION: Golder Associates, Ottawa. Ont.
J.J. Lynch (GSC)

Chemex Laboratories Ltd., Vancouver, B.C. (Sediments and Waters)
Atomic Energy of Canada, Ltd., Ottawa, Ont. (U in Sediments)
Bondar-Clegg, Ltd., North Vancouver, B.C. (U in Waters)
J.J. Lynch (GSC) and W.M. Johnson (MEMPR)

Initiated in 1990, the RGS Archive Program was conducted by the MEMPR and was funded in part by the Canada/British Columbia Mineral Development Agreement (1985-1990). P.F. Matysek and W. Jackaman directed the activities of MEMPR staff and managed the following sample preparation and analytical contracts.

PREPARATION:  Rob Phillips, Ottawa, Ont.
ANALYSIS: Becquerel Laboratories, Mississauga, Ont.
