Aggregate Operations in British Columbia

Aggregate operations exist in or near almost all North American cities and towns. Aggregate materials include sand, gravel and crushed stone, and aggregate is the most abundant natural resource on the planet. Aggregate materials are essential to our way of life and are used in everything from skyscrapers and sidewalks to house foundations and tennis courts. Aggregate is also used in construction fill, glass manufacturing, railway ballast, road construction and snow, ice and flood control.

British Columbia’s aggregate industry produces approximately $320 million worth of sand, gravel and crushed stone annually. The Ministry of Energy and Mines is the primary regulatory agency for aggregate operations in B.C.
