The British Columbia Geological Survey (BCGS) has over 35,600 approved mineral exploration assessment reports filed by the exploration and mining industry since 1947. These reports provide information on geological, geophysical, geochemical, drilling and other exploration-related activities throughout B.C.  These reports are scanned and available for viewing/printing from this website.

ARIS (Assessment Report Indexing System) greatly assists users in locating specific assessment reports for viewing or downloading, and provides brief report summaries (see ARIS Searches), including the ability to import text files containing assessment report numbers.

ARIS Digital Data are available for web download as of August 2016.

The ARIS MapBuilder can be used to quickly produce maps to partially fulfill assessment reporting requirements.  This map can also be used to create basic maps for the Mineral and Coal Exploration Notice of Work Application.  Please note that ARIS MapBuilder will not work with Internet Explorer 10 and up.  Please see MapPlace FAQ 2 for a workaround.

The MapPlace also shows locations of assessment reports and provides links to the ARIS website and the original report PDF file.  Visit the MINFILE site for searching and information on mineral occurrences in BC.

The BC Geological Survey Branch requests all clients to submit assessment reports in digital form (PDF).  We all benefit from submitting digital assessment reports by:

  • generating reports that are of a higher quality;
  • reducing the impact on the environment (less paper, no shipping);
  • saving government costs (storage, scanning and processing);
  • improving the data posted to the internet for your future use; and
  • allowing more data to be captured.

The reports can be emailed to or sent by storage device to the Mineral Titles Branch, 3rd Floor, 865 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC, V6Z 2G3.  See FAQ's for more information or click here for tips on how to submit an assessment report.

See MapPlace FAQ#24 for help on viewing and printing PDF documents.
