The Land Use Coordination Branch collaborates internally and with external interests on land use matters to ensure that subsurface, surface and energy resources continue to be available and accessible for all phases of resource development.

 

The key branch functions are:

  • Serving as a primary point of contact for external agencies and as a primary point of contact for collaboration between MEMPR divisions on land use issues.
  • Engaging in strategic policy development concerning land use issues associated with exploration and development of oil, gas, minerals, coal, and other natural resources.
  • Assisting with the development and coordinating the review of local bylaws and regional growth strategies to ensure consideration of natural resource exploration and development in communities.
  • Representing MEMPR land use interests with respect to oil, gas, minerals, coal, and other natural resources with other agencies and through the appropriate planning and land use management processes.
  • Working with external agencies, First Nations and communities, proponents and the public to inform, educate, and promote a better understanding of the extent, management, and value of natural resources and of land use issues associated with subsurface, surface and energy resource development, and to inform land use planning and implementation.
  • Supporting MEMPR Executive participation in land use deliberations and decision making.
