Electric Demand

The demand for electricity is growing. BC Hydro’s most recent forecast shows electricity demand to increase by 20-35% over the next 20 years due to several driving forces:

• Expanding population;
• Economic growth; and
• Changes in technology (i.e. increased use of electronic devices).

Electricity demand varies according to customer groups which are typically divided into three main categories:

• Industrial,
• Commercial, and
• Residential.
