Inefficient use of energy leads to higher costs, environmental damage and security of supply issues. We must all act as catalysts for positive change at home, at work and in our community.
Conservation is the cleanest and least expensive way to meet the increasing demand for electricity in British Columbia. The more energy we conserve now, the fewer new sources of supply our province will need in the future. That is why British Columbia is setting new conservation targets to reduce growth in electricity demand.
Change our habits, change the future. It makes sense to maximize efficiency and minimize environmental impact now so that we may feel safe in the knowledge that what we conserve today will be useful to us in the future. Ambitious targets have been developed to reduce the growth in electricity use in the province including:
-
implementing energy efficient building standards;
-
acquiring energy resources through conservation practices;
-
supporting public utilities in pursuing cost-effective, energy efficient energy management opportunities.
