The Electricity and Alternative Energy Division is active in developing programs dedicated to energy efficiency and conservation, simultaneously saving money for families and helping the environment. These programs are integral to meeting British Columbia's future energy needs, by exploring new and exciting ways to conserve our resources.
The BC Energy Plan sets ambitous conservation targets and government is working closely with BC Hydro and other utilities to research, develop and implement best practices in conservation and energy efficiency. Future energy efficiency and conservation initiatives will include:
- Removing barriers that prevent customers from reducing their consumption;
- Building upon efforts to educate customers about the choices they can make today with respect to the amount of electricity they consume;
- Exploring new rate structures to identify opportunities to use rates as a mechanism to motivate customers to use less electricity or use less at specific times;
- Provide customers with the information about their consumption to allow them to make informed choices; and
- Advancing on-going efforts to develop energy efficient products and practices through regulations, codes and standards.
